June Delores Reese, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great- great grandmother, peacefully passed away on January 26, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on August 5, 1930, to John and Mary Blount Owens. She spent much of her life in Buffalo, NY, where she recently resided.
June began her working career at a young age, starting at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Lackawanna, NY, when she was just 12 years old. On October 1, 1950, June married Melton (Robert Lee) Reese, together they were blessed with seven children: Debra, Beverly, Kevin, Lorna, Robin, Kimberly and Melton. June was a devoted wife and mother, always providing love, support, and a strong sense of family. She possessed a remarkable talent as an excellent seamstress and dedicated much of her time to creating memorable outfits for her family while working at M Wile. In 1982, June relocated to Los Angeles, where she worked at the Gold Exchange and Sears, Roebuck and Company until her retirement in 1993.
Outside of her work and family life, June enjoyed bowling and was an active participant in numerous leagues around Buffalo. She found joy in the camaraderie and friendly competition that bowling brought. June’s legacy is one of creativity, dedication, and support, which she consistently offered to her family and others throughout her life. Mom loved to crochet and made many, many items, even recruiting the grands to help her sell them at the flea market!
June had an entrepreneurial spirit and was a trailblazer. She won a car and numerous trips, inspiring the same drive in her children. Together we traveled the USA attending many Enagic events. Over the last nine years, we drove out west three times and Mom would say “I’m going with you; you are not leaving me home.”
June devoted her life to Jehovah and symbolized her baptism on September 25, 2005, in Rochester, NY as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She found strength and solace in her faith and was an active member of the Starin Congregation in Buffalo NY. We have many fond memories of attending regional conventions together, especially in New York City.
Anyone who visited her apartment, knew how much she loved plants. The living room windows were covered from the floor to the ceiling. Her plants have been shared with so many of us over the years. We appreciate Kevin, for helping mom care for her beloved plants when she was no longer able to. We are forever grateful to all who attended to and took such special care of mom.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Velma Crumble and Fay Smith, as well as brothers Kermit, Marvin, and Vernon Owens, daughter Debra Heinrich, son-in-law Bruce Syph, two great grandchildren: Amarianna Jackson and Elyza Rae Colon. June Delores Reese’s memory is cherished by her surviving family. She is survived by her sister Eunice (Lester) Hubbard, brother Bernard Owens. June’s legacy lives on through her six children: Beverly (Erwin) Smith, Kevin Reese, Lorna (Dwayne) Montgomery, Robin Reese-Syph, Kimberly (John) Reese-Lopatzie and Melton (Sharon) Reese along with two daughters-in-love: Patricia Reese and Alisa Malave, her 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandchildren (one on the way), along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Our loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, great-great grandma leaves behind a large extended family who will never forget her.
We would like to thank Alan R Core Funeral Home located at 1933 Kensington Avenue Buffalo NY 14215 for fulfilling June’s wishes.
